Task badges and keyboard shortcuts on the Smart Board
Beyond moving whole jobs around, the Smart Board also lets you track the individual tasks inside a job, and offers a handful of keyboard shortcuts to speed up day-to-day use.
The task-completion badge
Once a job has at least one task logged against it, a small pill badge appears in the bottom-right corner of its card, showing a tick icon and a count in the form "done/total", for example 3/5. The badge turns green once every task is complete; otherwise it stays a neutral grey. A job with no tasks yet shows no badge at all.
Opening the task panel
Click a job's badge to open its Tasks panel, a drawer that slides in from the right. It shows:
- A small "Tasks" label, the job's title as the heading, and a "done/total done" count.
- A thin progress bar showing what proportion of tasks are complete.
- Two columns: To Do and Done.
Each task card in the panel shows its title (struck through once done), a checkbox-style toggle you can click to mark it done or not done, a due-date pill (showing "Today", "[n]d overdue", or a short date), a coloured priority dot on incomplete tasks (red for high, amber for medium, grey for low), and an initials avatar for whoever it's assigned to.
Managing tasks in the panel
You can move a task between To Do and Done either by dragging its card across, or by clicking its checkbox toggle, both have the same effect.
To add a new task, click Add task (dashed outline, in the To Do column), type a title into the field that appears (placeholder: "Task title..."), then press Enter or click Add to save it. Press Escape or click Cancel to back out without saving. New tasks are always created with medium priority and start in the To Do column.
Keyboard shortcuts
These work anywhere on the Smart Board page, as long as you're not typing in a text field and not holding Cmd, Ctrl or Alt.
The subtitle under the Smart Board heading reminds you of the two most-used ones: "press / to search · N to add".
Remember that the board also supports keyboard-only dragging for moving a job card between columns: focus a card, press Space to pick it up, use the arrow keys to move it, and press Enter to drop it into the new column.
Tip: Because Escape closes any open modal and cancels a quick add in one keystroke, it's the fastest way to back out of whatever you're doing on the board without reaching for the mouse.
