Verifying a client's identity with KYC Smart Capture
KYC Smart Capture lets a client verify their own identity from their phone: they scan an ID document and take a live selfie, and Accupe runs automated checks on both before a member of your team makes the final call.
Sending a request
- Go to Contacts, open the client's record, and select the KYC tab, headed "Identity Verification" with the line "Verifying who this client is, and holding the evidence that proves it."
- Use one of the two buttons at the top right: Email link to client sends them a secure link by email (it shows "Sending..." while it works), and Start verification shows a QR code they scan with their phone there and then.
Every link you issue appears in the Verification sessions table on the same tab, with columns for Sent to, Status, Started, Completed, and Actions. Status shows as Awaiting client, Completed, or Expired. From Actions you can copy the verification link to send it yourself through another channel. Submissions that come back appear above it under Identity checks, each showing the trust score, a status badge (Awaiting review, Approved, or Rejected), and a badge per automated check. If nothing has been sent or submitted yet, the tab shows a single "Nothing verified yet" panel rather than three empty lists.
What the client sees
The client opens the link on their phone, no app to install. The page is headed "KYC Verification" with a "Powered by Accupe" subtext, and shows "Preparing verification..." then "Verifying session..." while it checks the link is still valid. An expired link shows "This verification link has expired. Please generate a new QR code."; a link that's already been completed shows the completion screen without asking them to capture anything again.
Otherwise, they're walked through Smart Capture: scanning their ID document and taking a live selfie. On submission, the page shows a short celebratory animation and confirms: "Verification Complete. Your identity verification has been submitted successfully. You can close this page and return to your computer." A footer note reminds them their data is encrypted and processed securely.
How Accupe scores each submission
Every submitted image is checked for size and format before anything else, and any EXIF metadata (including GPS location data) is stripped from the stored copy for data-minimisation reasons before it's kept. Accupe then builds a trust score out of four weighted checks:
Because face matching is switched off rather than faked, the trust score is hard-capped at 70 regardless of how well the other three checks score. Every submission is flagged for manual review; there's currently no score high enough to auto-approve a verification.
Reviewing submissions
Open KYC Verification from the sidebar or command palette (Cmd+K) to reach the KYC Review Queue at the Compliance section of your dashboard. Filter buttons let you switch between pending, approved, rejected, and all; the queue defaults to pending. The table lists each submission's client, trust score, submission date, status, and a Review action.
Clicking Review opens the "Review Verification Request" modal, showing the ID document image and live selfie side by side (both time-limited signed links, valid for an hour), the Automated Checks list with a Passed or Flagged badge for each one, and a Summary card with the verification ID, Overall Risk (shown as MEDIUM or HIGH; a trust score under 60 is HIGH, 60 and above is MEDIUM), and the Trust Score itself as a percentage.
For a pending request, you'll see two buttons: Reject verification and Approve & Verify Client. Approving sets the verification to approved and also updates the client's stored compliance status to green, so it's reflected immediately outside the KYC queue as well.
If no sessions have been sent yet, the queue shows an empty state explaining what KYC Smart Capture does, with buttons to send a link from Contacts or read more about KYC.
Note: The trust score bar turns green at 80 and above, amber from 50 to 79, and red below that, but because face matching is disabled the score can never actually reach the green tier today. Every submission needs a person to open it and decide.
