Tracking time with the Timer widget
Accupe's timer runs on a shared timer session, not a per-page one, so you can start it on one screen and stop it from another without losing the running time. It surfaces in several places that all stay in sync with each other.
Where the timer lives
- A play-icon button on each row of Practice > All Jobs, labelled "Start Timer for this Job" - the fastest way to start timing work on a specific job without leaving the list. This button only starts a timer; there's no stop control on the row itself.
- The Timer Widget at the top of Practice > Timesheets (route: /dashboard/jobs/timesheets, page heading "Timesheets & Analytics") - this is the only place with the full start/pause/stop controls and a client picker.
- Once a timer is running, a compact pill also appears in the top bar on every page (showing the elapsed time, the client name, and its own Pause/Stop buttons), and a matching "Active Timer" summary appears near the bottom of the sidebar with its own Stop control - so you can stop a timer from wherever you are in Accupe, not just from Timesheets.
Start the timer from any of these and it counts from the same shared clock - kick it off from a job row and you'll see it counting on the Timesheets page, the top bar, and the sidebar as well.
Using the Timer Widget
The widget's label reads "READY TO WORK?" when idle and "ACTIVE SESSION" once it's running. Underneath is a client picker listing your firm's clients plus an "Internal Admin" option for non-client work, and a large digital clock (hours:minutes:seconds).
- Choose a client (or Internal Admin) from the picker.
- Click Start Timer. The display starts counting up.
- While running, you can click the pause icon to pause, or click Stop (the red button) to finish the session - or use the matching Pause/Stop controls on the top-bar pill or sidebar panel from anywhere else in Accupe.
What happens when you stop
- If the session ran for under 60 seconds, nothing is saved, and you'll see the message: "Timer stopped. Sessions under 1 minute are not saved to timesheets." - wherever you stopped it from.
- If the session ran for 60 seconds or more, Accupe saves a timesheet entry automatically with a status of Logged, and the duration formatted as hours and minutes (e.g. "1h 30m"). The task text depends on how you started the timer:
- "Timer session for {client}" if you started it against a client (or Internal Admin) from the Timesheets Timer Widget.
- "Automated timer for {job title}" if you started it from a job row's Play button - this entry is also linked to that job, so it counts towards the job's hours on the Profitability report.
You don't need to fill in anything else - starting the timer against a client (or a job, if you started it from a job row) is enough for Accupe to log a complete, correctly labelled entry the moment you stop it, from any of the stop controls described above.
Note: The play/pause icon next to individual tasks on the All Tasks page is a separate, on-screen stopwatch for your own reference while you work through a task - it does not save anything to your timesheets. To record billable time that actually appears in Timesheets and Profitability, use the Timer Widget, the top-bar pill, the sidebar panel, or a job's "Start Timer for this Job" button as described above.
