What happens if a payment fails, and how to cancel
If a payment fails
If Stripe is unable to collect a payment, for example because of an expired card, your firm's billing status changes to past due and Stripe automatically begins retrying the charge.
- Full access continues during this period. Your Solo, Growth, or Elite features keep working while Stripe retries the payment.
- The status pill at the top of the Billing & Subscription page doesn't have a dedicated "Past Due" label, so it displays as "Trial" during this time rather than flagging the failed payment directly. If you suspect a payment has failed, check your email for a notice from Stripe, or open Manage Subscription to check the card on file.
- After 14 days without a successful payment, Accupe emails every admin on your account a notice titled "Your Accupe subscription needs attention", with a button to update your payment method. From this point, paid features may start returning a payment-required error until you update your card.
- After 21 days without a successful payment, your firm is automatically moved down to the Solo plan. Paid features such as advanced AI, bulk e-signatures, and custom domain access pause until you re-subscribe. Your Stripe subscription itself isn't cancelled at this point, it's your Accupe plan tier that changes.
To fix a failed payment at any point, update your payment method via Settings, then Billing & Subscription, then Manage Subscription. As soon as Stripe successfully collects payment, your billing status and plan tier are restored automatically.
Billing status at a glance
Note: If your firm shows a "Refund under review" banner instead, that's different: it means a recent refund on an annual subscription is being reviewed by our finance team. Your access isn't affected. Contact hello@accupe.com if you have questions.
Cancelling your subscription
There's no "Cancel" button inside Accupe itself. Cancellation is handled entirely through Stripe's Billing Portal:
- Go to Settings, then Billing & Subscription (admin access required).
- Select "Manage Subscription".
- In the Stripe-hosted Billing Portal, choose to cancel your subscription.
Once cancelled, your billing status changes to "Canceled" and paid features stop working. You'll need to re-subscribe from the Compare Plans table to restore access.
Tip: If you're not ready to cancel entirely, moving to Solo keeps your account, clients, and data active at Accupe's lowest-cost plan rather than losing access altogether.
